My Fishing Reports from Long Island.

11/23/07, 3:00pm-4:50pm, RM4,
Flat surf, NE 15-20 kts wind, WT:54° AT: 39°F, HTide:5:54pm
3 hits, one rat landed on tin. Enjoyed sunset.
EL SKUNKO
again.

 



 

 

11/22, 5:00am-7:10am, RM4
Light SSW wind, 1-3' surf, warm! Just one hit, nice sunrise. EL SKUNKO

 

 

11/21, 3:00pm-4:50pm, RM4
Light south wind, 3-5’ surf, clean water. Had 6 hits, landed 4 rats.

 

 

 

 


 

11/20, 6:50am-8:20am, RM4-RM3
Rain, SSE wind, 2’-3’ surf. Walked from RM4 to RM3 and back.
About 300 casts, 2 hits, one short fish landed.

 

 

 

11/18, 1:00pm-4:00pm, Sore Thumb
Shad striking small spoons. Fished live shad for big cow, two hours without hit.

 

11/17, 8:00am, RM4 & RM3
WNW 20kts wind, water looks clean. Very "quiet" ……… like before storm/blitz?


 

11/16, 7:00am-8:15an, RM4
20-30kts WNW wind, 2’-5’ surf. No fish, but enjoyed every cast.
Good way to start a day. Back to work.


 

11/15, 8:15am-9:00am, RM3 front
Strong S-SW wind, 3-5’ surf, a lot of white, clean water
Perfect condition for bucktails and tins. Some birds working behind first sand bar, but out of casting range.
I guess I was two hours late. No hits, no fish.

 



 

11/12, 8:30am-9:30am, RM4
Flat surf, no wind, overcast. Quick stop before work.
Had 3 rats and 3 more bumps. Several commercial fishing boats working very close to beach.
Are they targeting stripers?
Went back to car for binoculars, but can’t read the boat’s name (I am old man!?!).

 

 


 

 

11/11, 4:00pm-5:45pm, RM3
Measured water temp in surf: 53.5F. No fish, no birds, El Skunko again.

 

11/11, 5:30am-7:00am, RM4
Very cold NNE wind, surf in 3-5’ swells
Every Veterans’ Day since year 2003 surf fishing at Robert Moses was excellent.
Today tradition was broken. I had to taps from rats. Planning sunset trip.

 

 

 

11/10, 6:30am-8:00am, RM4
Light E-NE wind, 0-3’ surf, overcast. Quiet, had two very short stripers. Going back to beach soon.

 

 



 

11/9, 7:00am-8:00am
NE wind, flat surf, some rain. No hits, no baitfish, no bluefish, no stripers. Back to work.

 

11/4, 4:00pm-5:30pm
Fished around sunset at RM4. Had 7 hits, connected to 4 fish, landed 2 short stripers.

 

 


 

11/4, 8:15am-9:30am
Demo is reopen. Scouting trip from RM2 to RM5. Did see short fish caught on clams at RM2.
Beach looking good after storm at field #4 and #5.

 

11/3, 5:00pm-6:30pm
Fished RM2 at sunset, zero fish, nice sunset. Big surf, strong NE wind, water relatively clean.

 

 

 

11/3, 8:00am-9:00am
Strong NE wind 30-35kts, nice white water, 7-10’ surf. Fished backtails and metal without luck.
A lot of fun. Birds working hard, but 3 casts away.

 

 

 

 

 

11/1, 9:00am-10:00am
Quick stop before work at RM3. Windy, nice surf. No fish. no birds.
 

 

10/31, 3:30pm-6:15pm
20kts South wind, 3’ surf , some white water. Walked from RM2 to RM3 and back.
One hit – one fish - monster striper ~20 inches. Halloween colors sunset.

 

 



 

10/31, 5:30am-8:30am
Walked from RM4 to RM5 and back. Throw everything for surf bag.
No life, no hits, no bumps, no wind. Nice sunrise. Waiting for south wind.

 

10/28, 8:30am-9:30am
Stiff north wind, about 20kts. Quiet, no birds or fish. Will be back for afternoon session.

Date: 10-27-2007

Location: Sunken Meadow #3,  3:00pm - 4:45pm (low tide @ 6:06 pm)

Catch: 3bluefish 3-6 lbs, pic1, pic2, pic3.

Comments: A lot of peanut bunker in water (now bigger size ~5-6”). Bluefish enjoying delicious meal.
Poppers worked best for me, because sea robins attacking anything else

Location: Robert Moses #3, 8:00am - 10:00am (high tide @ 8:21 am)

Catch: 3 bluefish 5-6lbs, and two short stripers pic1, pic2.

Comments: South wind, 5’ surf, nice white water for bucktails

Date: 10-24-2007

Location: Robert Moses #4, 8:30am - 9:00am (high tide @ 6:00 am)

Catch: none

Comments: Rain, big surf 7' waves, some eel grass in light brown water. Alone on beach.
                     However better them work. pic1, pic2, pic3, pic4

Date: 10-22-2007 kayak fishing

Location: Nissequogue River entrance, 2:00pm - 5:00pm (low tide @ 2:31pm)

Catch: 3 bluefish 3-6lbs on poppers and lots of sea robins.

Comments: sea robins attacking everything, even still popper.

Location: Demo, Nissequogue River, back of RM4, 1:00pm - 8:00pm

Catch: none

Comments: summer like weather and zero fish.

Date: 10-17-2007

Location: SM#3 / Nissequogue River, 6:30pm - 8:15pm (high tide @ 3:47 pm) WT62.6F.

Catch: 5 bluefish 3-6 lbs

Comments: a lot of people and baitfish at the beach, crowd was gone with darkness.

Location: Robert Moses #4, 7:30pm - 9:30pm (low tide @ 5:37 pm)

Conditions: flat surf, light SW wind.

Comments: worked hard for one short striper, had two more hits.

Date: 10-14-2007

Location: Robert Moses #4, 6:30pm - 9:30pm (high tide @ 9:57 pm)

Conditions: flat surf, NW 15kts wind, water temp 61.3F.

Catch: 6 stripers 24" -27" on swimming plugs: pic1, pic2, pic3.

Comments: All fish caught after dark with very slow retrieve. Exceptional sunset.

Date: 10-13-2007

Location: Robert Moses #4, 7:00am - 9:30am (high tide @ 9:04 am)

Conditions: flat surf, NW wind, water temp 62.5F.

Catch: 3 small bluefish and one short striper

Comments: False Albacore, bluefish and stripers chasing baitfish looks like sardines.

                     Nice sunrise.

Location: Sore Thumb, 7:30pm - 9:30pm (high tide @ 8:44 pm)

Conditions: strong NW wind

Catch: two short stripers

Comments: nice to be alone on beach, escaped crowds of Nissy

Date: 10-8-2007

Location: SM#3/Nissequogue River, 5:30pm - 7:00pm (low tide @ 4:19 pm)

Catch: one bluefish ~5lbs

Comments: went to river after work with my son John. Incoming tide with black water from peanut bunker. Bluefish harassing bait fish and pushing to shore.

Date: 10-6-2007

Location: Robert Moses #4, 7:00am - 8:30am (low tide @ 10:41 am)

Conditions: 2-3' surf, SW10 kts wind, water temp 68.5F.

Catch: about 3 small  bluefish and one short striper ~23".

Comments: nice surf condition with fog.

Date: 10-3-2007

Location: Robert Moses #4, 7:00am - 8:15am (low tide @ 7:16 am)

Conditions: 3-4' surf, SE 5-10 kts wind, water temp 67F.

Lures: poppers, storm shads

Catch: about 7 small bluefish and one short striper

Comments: quick stop at the beach before work.

Lures: storm shads

Catch: bluefish ~7 lbs

Comments: nice sunset.

Date: 9-29-2007

Location: Sore Thumb, 7:00pm - 10:30pm (high tide @ 10:03 pm)

Conditions: no wind, moon light

Lures: storm shads

Catch: one weakfish about 5 lbs

Comments: lost another fish after short fight.

Date: 7-11-2007

Location: Demo 4x4, 6:30pm - 8:15pm (high tide @ 5:22 pm)

Conditions: 2-3' surf in swells, SW 12 kts wind, water temp 72F.

Lures: storm shads

Catch: Short striper

Comments: small bluefish blitz at the inlet.

Date: 6-30-2007

Location: South off Fire Island

Conditions: 2-3' surf,  NE 10-13 kts wind

Lures: storm shads, backtails and metal

Catch: many bluefish in range 5-9 lbs.

Comments: trolled behind sailboat in 50-120' of water.

 

Report # 8

Date: 6-24-2007

Location: Gilgo 4x4, 1:00pm - 4:30pm (high tide @ 3:36 pm)

Conditions: 1-2' surf, SW 10-12 kts wind.

Bait: clams and bunker

Catch: keeper size fluke and short striper

Comments: family fishing with friends, both fish on clams caught by Valdek

Date: 6-19-2007

Location: Nissequogue River entrance, 7:00pm - 8:00pm (high tide @ 3:23 pm)

Lures: krocodile spoon

Catch: bluefish -big snappers

 

Report # 6

Date: 6-17-2007

Location: Gilgo 4x4, 7:00am - 12:30pm (high tide @ 9:48 pm)

Conditions: 3' surf in swells, W 17-20 kts wind, water temp 62F.

Bait: clams and bunker

Catch: 3 short stripers and one cut off from bluefish.

Comments: Demo 4x4 access was closed. Went to Gilgo with my son for Father's Day fishing trip.

 

Report # 5

Date: 6-13-2007

Location: Sunken Meadow - #3, 7:10pm - 8:15pm (low tide @ 4:14 pm)

Conditions: 2-3' surf, strong NE wind 17-25 kts.

Lures: poppers, spoons

Catch: ~ 15 bluefish 3-4lbs

Comments: bluefish feeding on sand eels.

 

Report # 4

Date: 6-12-2007

Location: Sunken Meadow - #3, 6:10pm - 7:00pm (low tide @ 3:18 pm)

Conditions: flat surf

Lures: poppers, swimming plugs, spoons

Catch: about 20 bluefish 3-4lbs on every cast, a lot of fun with popper.

Comments:  bluefish festival, left them biting due to invasion of black flies. Sunset.

 

Report # 3

Date: 6-10-2007

Location: Sore Thumb, 9:00pm - 11:30pm (low tide @ 10:38 pm)

Conditions: No wind, flat surf

Lures: storm shads, swimming plugs, other lures

Catch: 2 bluefish and 2 short stripers

Comments:  Went to hunt for weakfish, fish active from 10 pm.

 

Report # 2

Date: 4-22-2007

Location: Sunken Meadow - East of jetty, 7:00pm - 8:30pm (high tide @ 4:13 pm)

Conditions: S wind 10 kts, flat surf, water temp 40F

Lures: storm shads 4" and 6", and metal spoons

Catch: 2 small stripers

Comments:  On first cast I broke my fishing record of the smallest striper caught - about 10 inches.

Date: 4-21-2007

Location: Sunken Meadow - River, 7:00pm - 8:30pm (low tide @ 9:19 pm)

Conditions: No wind, flat surf, water temp 40F

Lures: storm shads, poppers, swimming plugs

Catch: fresh air and nice sunset, no baitfish or stripers.

Comments:  very shallow water in the Nissequogue River entrance
