My Fishing Reports from Long Island.
Report # 26 Date: 11-01-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - Demo 4x4, 2-6 pm, (high tide @ 3:13 pm) Conditions: SW 6 kts wind, 1-2' surf, clean water at 58F. Catch: one short striper and one small bluefish. Comments: bluefish chasing schools of baby (~3") bunker. Nice sunset.
Report # 25 Date: 10-28-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - field # 3, 5-6 pm Conditions: W 23-33 kts wind, 10-13' surf Comments: went scouting to the beach for sunset, big waves and very windy, no fish.
Report # 24 Date: 10-27-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - East of field # 5, 6:10am - 9:20am (high tide @ 10:57 am) Conditions: N 10 kts wind, super flat surf Comments: 3 miles walk for zero fish or hits. Stopped after sunset at RM3 for one 27".
Report # 23 Date: 10-26-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - field # 3, 6:50am - 9:20am (high tide @ 10:08 am) Conditions: NW 15 kts wind, flat surf, clean water at 59.5F Catch: no fish, just one crab. Comments: fished lures before work, nice sunrise.
Report # 22 Date: 10-24-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - East of field # 5, 7:00am - 9:30am (high tide @ 8:57am) Conditions: WNW 20 kts wind, 0-2' surf, clean water at 60.6F Catch: 5 small bluefish on tins and one 30" chopper on storm shad 6". Comments: a lot of birds working, but to far from beach. Stopped after work 6-7 pm at RM4, no fish.
Report # 21 Date: 10-22-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - field # 3, 6:30am - 9:00am (high tide @ 7:55 am) Conditions: NW 2 kts wind, flat surf, clean water at 61.2F Catch: none, enjoyed nice sunrise Comments: bunker close to surf, did see a lot of birds in front of lighthouse (bluefish blitz at 9 am).
Report # 20 Date: 10-21-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - field # 4, 5:30pm - 6:30pm (high tide @ 7:33 pm) Conditions: NW 20 kts wind, 0-2' surf, clean water at 61.7F Catch: just sunset Comments: a lot of guys bait fishing, blues and kipper stripers was caught early in the day.
Report # 19 Date: 10-16-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - field # 3, 6:00pm - 7:30pm (high tide @ 3:57 pm) Conditions: S 10 kts wind, 1-2' surf, clean water at 62F Catch: 7 bluefish 3lbs, and 2 short stripers 20", 24" Comments: cocktail bluefish blitz, fish splitting 3" anchovies. Find 7" live bunker on beach.
Report # 18 Date: 10-8-2006 - kayak Location: LI Sound near Nissequogue River entrance, 1:00-3:00pm (high tide12:29pm) Conditions: no wind, full sun, Lures: storm shads Catch: two bluefish 4-5lbs and one small striper. Comments: bluefish in deeper water, striper in river, summer like weather.
Report # 17 Date: 10-7-2006 - surf Location: Robert Moses - field #4, 5:45pm - 7:30pm (high tide @ 8:09 pm) Conditions: ENE 15-20kts wind, 7-8' surf, full moon. Lures: bucktails, metal Catch: none Comments: perfect white water, nice sunset, no fish.
Report # 16 Date: 9-27-2006 - kayak report Location: LI Sound near Nissequogue River entrance, 5:30-7:30pm (high tide 2:42pm) Conditions: light south wind, strong outgoing current Lures: storm shads Catch: two bluefish 4-5lbs. Comments: Fished from kayak 0.5 mile from shore. Nice sunset and good weather condition.
Report # 15 Date: 7-12,13-2006 - boat report Location: ocean up to 36 miles South of Fire Island Inlet Conditions: W 15kts wind, 2-3' sea Lures: backtails and metal Catch: two Atlantic bonito and one big bluefish, lost another bonito and bluefish when reeling. Comments: trolled behind sailboat, bonito close to FI Inlet, they hitting lures trolled at speed about 5kts.
Report # 14 Date: 7-29,30-2006 - boat report Location: ocean up to 30 miles South of Fire Island Inlet Conditions: W wind, 2-4' sea Lures: storm shads, backtails and metal Catch: about 12 bluefish 6-11 lbs Comments: trolled behind sailboat in 50-120' of water, all fish on Saturday 10-30miles offshore.
Report # 13 Date: 7-25-2006 Location: Robert Moses 4x4, 6:00pm - 9:00pm (high tide @ 8:19 pm) Conditions: S 15kts wind, 3'-4' surf, water temp 72F Baits and Lures: clams, storm shads and metal Catch: five small stripers 20-26" all on lures. Comments: only crabs on clams, all fish after sunset.
Report # 12 Date: 7-15,16-2006 - boat report Location: ocean near Fire Island Inlet Conditions: NNE wind or no wind, flat sea. Lures: storm shads, backtails and metal Catch: a lot of bluefish 5-10 lbs Comments: trolled behind sailboat in 30-70' of water.
Report # 11 Date: 7-7,8-2006 - boat report Location: From Fire Island Inlet to Breezy Point Conditions: SSW wind or no wind, flat sea, water temp 72F Lures: Sparo white backtails (2 oz) with Uncle Josh No 57-S forked tail strip Catch: two 36-38" stripers and five bluefish 5-10lbs, all fish released Comments: trolled backtails in 30'-50' water (2-5kts) behind sailboat on trip to NYC, daylight action around inlets, best at the Breezy Point.
Report # 10 Date: 6-25-2006 Location: Robert Moses 4x4, 6:00pm - 9:00pm (high tide @ 7:56 pm) Conditions: SSE 12kts wind, 3' surf, water temp 68F Baits: clams Catch: one small striper ~23" and two skates Comments: scouting trip to 4x4 access at RM, looks like Gilgo has more beach structures.
Report # 9 Date: 6-24-2006 Location: Gilgo 4x4, 4:00pm - 7:45pm (high tide @ 7:10 pm) Conditions: SSW 10kts wind, 3-4' surf, water temp 66F, rain. Lures & Baits: storm shads, metal, clams Catch: two short stripers at 24" on clams. Comments: rain all time, had 4 hits, landed two fish, all action on clams close to shore.
Report # 8 Date: 6-11-2006 Location: Robert Moses - field #2 & #3, 7:30pm - 9:30pm (high tide @ 7:51 pm) Conditions: WNW 12kts wind, flat surf, brown water at temp 56.7F, Full Moon. Lures: storm shads, poppers, metal Catch: none Comments: went to south shore beach for change. Walked from field 2 to field 3. Find some baitfish in water. Watched magnificent moonrise at 9pm.
Report # 7 Date: 6-4-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - field #3, 7:10pm - 8:10pm (high tide @ 6:29 pm) Conditions: no wind on beach, flat surf, water temp 60.8F Lures: storm shads, poppers Catch: none Comments: short fishing due to vicious attacks by the black flies (gnats). Next time I will check wind direction, S-SW 7kts wind is bad for North Shore.
Report # 6 Date: 6-3-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - field #3, 8:00pm - 8:45pm (high tide @ 5:39 pm) Conditions: NE wind 15 kts, 1-2' surf, water temp 60F Lures: storm shads, poppers, swimming plugs, metal Catch: 3 bluefish 2 - 4 lbs. Comments: quick stop on the beach before work, they want to chop my 6" storm shads only.
Report # 5 Date: 5-8-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - jetty, 7:00pm - 8:30pm (high tide @ 8:54 pm) Conditions: NNE wind 13 kts, 1-2' surf, water temp 51F Lures: storm shads 4" and 6", and metal spoons Catch: 11 small stripers ~15"-21". Comments: Bigger fish on smaller lures, smaller fish on bigger lures!? Had 5 fish on 7 casts.
Report # 4 Date: 5-7-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - field #3, 7:20pm - 8:40pm (high tide @ 8:10 pm) Conditions: SSW wind 6 kts, flat surf, water temp 52F Lures: storm shads, swimming plugs Catch: one small striper Comments: take kids fishing again, did see a lot of small baitfish in water and school of bunker moving along the beach in East direction - signs of good fishing soon. Great sunset.
Report # 3 Date: 5-6-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - River, 7:15pm - 8:45pm (high tide @ 7:21 pm) Conditions: NNW wind 10-15 kts, 1-2' surf, water temp 53.8F Lures: storm shads and metal Catch: 4 small stripers 15-18" Comments: fished with two boys and with my friend Bob. Fish or two for everybody.
Report # 2 Date: 5-5-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - field #3, 7:30pm - 8:30pm (high tide @ 6:25 pm) Conditions: SSW wind 7 kts, flat surf, water temp 51.6F Lures: storm shads Catch: 5 small stripers 15-20", first fish of season - kissed and released. Comments: fish jumping around and aggressive, but very small,....... nice sunset.
Report # 1 Date: 4-18-2006 Location: Sunken Meadow - River, 7:00pm - 8:00pm (low tide @ 9:18 pm) Conditions: NW wind 10 kts, 1' surf, water temp 47F Lures: swimming plugs Catch: fresh air and sunset, no baitfish or stripers. Comments: nice sand bar and structures West of the river.
